The concept of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is lost on a lot of people.
It’s not just purchase price that you need to consider. Also fuel, maintenance, repairs, insurance, and depreciation.
Not to be overlooked by the factor of “Oooooh, it’s shiny and new and I always wanted one of those and can afford a loan so GIVE IT TO ME NOW DAMMIT I DON’T CARE ABOUT LONG TERM COSTS I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!!”.

Yep. It’s like the old joke about buying a Ferrari... if you want to own one, you better be able to afford two. That rule of thumb, by the way, also seems to apply to Ducati motorcycles as well - must be an Italian thing. Regardless, as a recovering tightwad I have calculated those costs and watched every penny for years, and those years were wasted driving such economical “gems” as a ‘93 Ford Festiva or a 2003 Chevy S-10. I am now trying to enjoy my life a little more nowadays instead of fretting about every cent. So, while I don’t know exactly how much the pony car or desmodromic money pit cost me, they sure do put a smile on my face every time I fire them up. Worth every penny. Quit killing my buzz.
